The M178 is the dry-sump variant of the M177 4.0L biturbo V8, designed specifically for the AMG GT sports car (C190/R190/C192). It uses a dry-sump lubrication system to allow a lower mounting position for a reduced centre of gravity. The Black Series variant uniquely runs a flat-plane crankshaft producing 720 hp — the most powerful AMG V8 ever built. Hand-assembled at AMG Affalterbach.
